My recommendation: do not install Ubuntu on laptops
I love Ubuntu. I love using it on pcs, but I think a horror portable, so do not recommend it to anyone with a laptop let alone installed Ubuntu.
Now will discuss the reasons why I make this recommendation. I hope someone knows refute and provide objective solutions to the problems presented to me today Ubuntu:
-The control of the CPU for Core 2 Duo is terrible compared to Windows or Mac OS X.
I have an Asus F3Jc laptop, which came with Windows preinstalled and with the use Power4 Gear really is great for controlling the frequency of the CPU and processor temperature. On Ubuntu simply there is nothing like that. I tried to control how often the subject of the governor (ondemand, etc, etc) and really is a chestnut apply in addition to having a complex configuration for people without knowledge
- There is always some hardware that does not work or works cutremente after having to read you several forums and fight a little with the Terminal.
The most common, as I do not work is the webcam. It's a shame to have wasted so useful device.
-Support for Creative players bad
While I can transfer music in a way my Zen Vision: M in a somewhat rudimentary, the photo and video transfer is impossible. I have to keep Windows installed, if only for that
Finally, although the subject of many webcam it can miss, I think the control of the processor / fan is important and to consider unless you do not mind that the laptop will last you a sigh or equal the laptop sounds as if about to take off.
Yes, I know it's the fault of the software developers, but that a user does not care. What we want is an OS that works well not one that works well in some things worse not because of other software developers.
I tried several versions of Ubuntu since 7.04 and the thing is not fixed, the Ubuntu developers will draw Ubuntu for netbooks but not for regular laptops. Finally, it is simply amazing. I think what we should do the owners of laptops with problems similar to those which I have is:
-Do not install Ubuntu on laptops. Boycott until things improve.
-Ask again and again strongly improved support for laptops in brainstorm.ubuntu.com
